Investing in the Future of Music In Ōtautahi Christchurch – Building with CSM

Become a cornerstone of Ōtautahi’s cultural future. Partner with us today and help build the Christchurch School of Music’s new home.

After more than 70 years without a permanent home, CSM has been recognised by the Christchurch City Council for its value to our city, making $4 million available in matching funds once we have secured the balance needed for the $12.6 million build. We are currently locking in an initial promise of a further $4 million from private donors, and will then have $4.6 million left to raise from funding organisations and individuals.

Our new purpose-built building, already consulted, designed and scoped, will provide a central city hub for musicians of all ages and experience to come together to learn, play and feel the joy of making music. It will feature rooms for lessons and ensembles from solos to large orchestras as well as instrument storage and places for children and families to meet each other.

As part of Otautahi’s Performing Arts Precinct, alongside the Town Hall, Court Theatre, The Lady Isaac Theatre and The Piano, we will contribute to a thriving community that recognises the importance and value of creativity and the arts in our challenged world. It will be a place of belonging, achievement, joy and community – a life-enhancing gift for generations to come.

To start building at 128 Armagh Street we will be launching a public fundraising campaign in mid-September this year.

Where will CSM be building?

Hamish Peddie at Wilkie+Bruce Architects designed a purpose built home for us.

Understanding our need for a sustainable, affordable, musically wonderful home they fit in a rehearsal hall, community space, teaching rooms, music and instrument storage and an admin space.
